The Dominican Republic (Spanish: República Dominicana) is a country in the Caribbean that is solely bordered by Haiti. Together with Haiti, the Dominican Republic forms the island Hispaniola. The capital city is Santo Domingo. The Dominicans use the name of the capital to refer to the entire country. A few of the largest tourist centres in the Dominican Republic are: Santo Domingo, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana and Boca Chica. The former colonial architecture is well-conserved in Santo Domingo whilst the other centres are widely known for their beautiful sandy beaches and excellent accommodation.
Note: Surinamese citizens do not require a visa to travel to the Dominican Republic. You do need a tourist card which can be purchased at the airport.
The natural surroundings in the Dominican Republic are characterized by the “Pico Duarte”, a mountain which is 3,175 meters high, the highest in the Caribbean. The country also has an extensive National Park called “Jaragua” with large colonies of flamingoes. The park is further famous for its caves with wallpaintings. The Dominican Republic is also renowned for its magnificent wide stretches of sandy beaches, music and dance. Numerous tourists are drawn to this country each year.
The Dominican Republic is a dream destination for many. This Caribbean country is primarily known as a beach destination and rightly so. It has beautiful long stretched white sand beaches and a clear blue sea. But the Dominican Republic has a lot more to offer. Just think about the fabulous waterfalls, the overwhelming nature parks and historical cities which can all be found in this country.
Isla Saona
On Isla Saona, you imagine yourself in a paradise. The beach is stunningly white and the sea water is so clear that it all seems like a large swimming pool. The island is located south-east of the Dominican Republic and forms part of the National Park Del Este which is excellent for snorkeling, diving and bird-watching. There are regular excursions to Isla Saona from Punta Cana. If you are not staying in Punta Cana, but for example in Samaná or Puerto Plata, you can visit Bacardi Island (Cayo Levantado) and Paradise Island at Punta Rucia. Both islands are equally paradise-like but are somewhat smaller than Isla Saona.

Let op: Surinamers hebben geen visum nodig voor een vakantie naar de Dominicaanse Republiek. Wel een toeristenkaart, koopt men op de airport.

De Dominicaanse Republiek is een droombestemming voor velen. Het Caribische land staat vooral bekend als strandbestemming en dat is terecht. Je vindt er prachtig witte stranden en een helderblauwe zee. Toch heeft de Dominicaanse Republiek nog veel meer te bieden. Denk maar eens aan de sprookjesachtige watervallen, overweldigende natuurgebieden en de historische steden die in het land te vinden zijn. Isla Saona

Op Isla Saona waan je je in het paradijs. Het strand is er ongelooflijk mooi wit en de zee is zo helder dat het net een groot zwembad lijkt. Dit eiland ten zuidoosten van de Dominicaanse Republiek behoort tot het nationale park Del Este waar je ook erg goed kunt snorkelen, duiken en vogels spotten. Er worden regelmatig excursies georganiseerd naar Isla Saona vanuit Punta Cana. Als je niet in Punta Cana verblijft maar bijvoorbeeld in Samaná of Puerto Plata, zijn Bacardi Island (Cayo Levantado) en Paradise Island bij Punta Rucia ook aan te raden. Deze eilanden zijn net zo paradijselijk, maar net iets kleiner dan Isla Saona.
